One thing to consider when clearing a blocked drain is what effect your attempts at clearing them can have.

There are many chemical drain unblockers on the market and whilst a lot of them are effective, they can have adverse effects on your pipe work, rubber or plastic seals and the environment. This is especially important if your waste water runs to a septic tank or treatment plant – it can kill the very bacteria that’s supposed to break down the waste!

So this brings us to clearing or unblocking your drain mechanically. There are two options here:

  • Hand Operated Drain Snake
  • Battery Powered Drain Auger

To be honest, if this isn’t your first time dealing with a particular blocked waste pipe, you’re better off going straight for a battery powered, heavier duty machine. They just have more power for tricky bends and awkward places. You also want as much power as possible when you reach the blockage and want to break it up.

It also means less effort on your part. Clearing a drain or waste pipe can be draining. I’ll see myself out.

Here we would recommend you try the Worx Cordless Drain Auger, which has an impressive cable length of 7.6 metres.

This is perfectly designed to cope with unblocking kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, shower outlets, bath waste pipes and downpipes.

I have also used these for outside kitchen gullies and carefully through toilets, as well as to clear main stack pipes between floors. With a bit of practice and common sense this is a very versatile machine.

Of all the machines available, we’ve picked this for several reasons shown below:
